There are many sport grounds and halls for different sports around Turku. Some of these are reserved for sports teams for a large part of the day, but there are public hours available for majority of them. In addition, CampusSport provides various sports for students and staff.
You can book sport grounds provided by the city of Turku through Timmi service with your bank IDs. Unfortunately only part of the website is in English.
Services of CampusSport are open for all the students and staff members of University of Turku, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Åbo Akademi University and Yrkeshögskolan Novia.
The versatile sports selection of CampusSport includes instructed sports classes (group workouts, combat sports, outdoor sports), sports shifts, five different gyms, a swimming pool and short courses. The weekly selection contains several classes of different levels, so that anyone can join in exercising.

The right to use the sport services can be bought at the online store of CampusSport. With this price, you can use all the sports facilities and classes that CampusSport has to offer. Check out the prices from CampusSport website.
There are own teams for almost every sport within the University, so if you want to practice your sport within a team, you should ask from CampusSport or your faculty. CampusSport facilities are located near the city center.
Urheilupuisto is located next to Samppalinna Hill and it offers two basketball courts, five beach volley ball courts, two sand and two grass fields and a popular fitness path if you enjoy running. There are also five tennis courts, which can be booked for 4-12€ depending on time and day. Single or regular turn are available until the end of September. In addition, there is a frisbee golf course and an athletics stadium, Paavo Nurmi Stadium.
Kupittaa Sports Centre lies at a walking distance from the city centre. There you can find e.g. a velodrome and BMX-track, sand and grass fields, a skateboarding facility and a sports hall with an affordable gym. In the vicinity, you might see football (soccer) players at Veritas Stadium, which is the home of Finnish football teams TPS and Inter.
There are three main athletics fields in Turku: The Paavo Nurmi Stadium, Jäkärlä athletics field and Kupittaa Sports Hall.
Paavo Nurmi Stadium is located at the sports park right in the city center of Turku. There is a 400 meter 8 track line and areas for field sports. Time slots are mainly for sports teams, but otherwise the field is open for everyone.
Jäkärlä Sports Park is located a few kilometers away from Turku city center. It has got a 300 metre running track and areas for throwing sports and high and long jumping. Time slots are mainly for sports teams, but otherwise it’s open for everyone, when there are no reservations.
An indoor athletics field is located in the Kupittaa Sports Hall. It’s open for everyone who has paid the entrance fee to the Sports Hall area.
There are three main football fields near the Turku city center: Kupittaa, Urheilupuisto and Impivaara. Most of the football teams in Turku region practice in these main grounds. If the grounds are not reserved for teams, anyone can play on them.
Kupittaa has two artificial lawn grounds and one sand field. There is also the Veritas football stadium, but it’s only for professional use, as well as the grass fields nearby.
Sports Park has two artificial lawn grounds and one sand field.
Football Hall in Impivaara Sports Centre is the only place where there are public hours during the winter.
In addition there are many smaller fields around the city such as Park Field, which are more often free for anyone to play.

There are few gyms run by the City of Turku and they are connected with other sports facilities such as Impivaara and Kupittaa. They are bit cheaper than the private gyms, especially if you don’t go to gym regularly.
You can also find outdoor gym equipments next to some outdoor jogging trails.
In addition there are a bunch of private gyms around Turku area. Below is a list of some of them. Remember to ask, if they offer student discounts! Unfortunately all pages are only in Finnish, but at the gyms personnel will most likely also speak English. Note, all gyms sauna!

Natural Ice Rinks
The natural ice rinks are often sand or artificial lawn fields that are transformed to ice rinks when the weather is cold enough. They are usually equipped with changing rooms and lighting from 9am to 9pm. In most cases these natural ice rinks cannot be reserved and are free and open for everyone. You can check the locations and the ice condition from here. If the winter weather is cold enough, it is also possible to go skating on a sea or lake. Please check the ice conditions beforehand!
Artificial Ice Rinks
Park Field is located in the middle of the city center (Tuureporinkatu 2) and is open daily in the winter from 8am to 10pm. The skating area can be used at any time during opening hours and cost 2€. There are separate areas for skating and hockey. It is also possible to rent skates at the field.
In addition there are two ice halls, Impivaara Ice Hall (Eskonkatu 1) and Varissuo Ice Hall (Kraatarinkatu 4). These halls are mostly reserved for sports teams, yet there are some public hours for skating.
The City of Turku maintains over 50 km of ski tracks in total on jogging trails. Most of the ski tracks are dependent on the snow situation. More information of skiing and the condition of the tracks can be found from the City of Turku website. Skiing equipment can be rented from the Impivaara Ski Rental Service.
Turun Uimahalli has been recently renovated and located right next to the University of Turku.
Impivaara Swimming Hall is located in the Impivaara sports center area a few kilometers away from the city centre.
Petrelius Swimming Hall is located in the southern part of Turku.
In addition there is a privately owned Spa and Congress Hotel Caribia right next to the Student village. It has multiple pools and a spa area.
Kupittaa Outside Pool Area is a refreshing place to spend time in the summer. It is located in the middle of Kupittaa Park. The pool area contains a big pool for swimming and playing, a swimming pool for training swimming, a children's pool, a small wading pool, a big waterslide and organized water exercise 4 times a week. You can even bring your own packed lunch with you to the area (as long as it doesn’t contain alcohol).
Samppalinna Outside Swimming Area is usually open from the beginning of May to the beginning of September.
In the summer Saaronniemi Beach in Ruissalo is a very popular place among locals.
There are clay, artificial lawn and asphalt surface courts for tennis players in Turku. Clay courts can be used only with reservation. Other courts can be used by anyone if they are free.
There is also a private tennis hall named after former Finnish tennis player Jarkko Nieminen a few kilometers away from the city center at Impivaara. You can reserve courts through their website.

City of Turku has outdoor volleyball courts that have a stone dust surface. Usage of volleyball courts doesn't require reservation and they are open for everyone excluding the one on Sports Park (Urheilupuisto).
You can use beach volleyball courts free of charge. All the courts can be used by anyone if there is no reservation. Single turns can be easily booked online. There are 10 beach volleyball courts in Turku (Check out locations!) Closest ones to city center are 5 courts in Urheilupuisto and 2 in Kupittaa.
Yoga and pilates are growing their popularity and there are good selection of lessons in Turku. Internet pages are only in Finnish, but please visit the centers for more information.
